This haunted event was introduced in the October 6th issue. An easy, medium, hard maze were available for players to attempt. Players who successfully completed the maze would receive a prize. Easy maze winners were awarded 100 credits, medium maze winners got the The Haunted Mansion Master Gracey Pin, and the hard maze prize was the Candy Cauldron.

Here at Main Street VMK, we have been doing research on VMK. We have finally found a post on VFKCentral.com about VMK opening back up around October.

As stated by TikiT is VFK.

Before you start to say this isn't the real TikiT, it is, he has answered questions that he would only know, if you don't believe me, ask savvy.kiwi, SkyRocket or pirategal_ahoy.

I hope this will not end up as pay-to-play and it will be free.

TikiT has also stated, they are working with another company to open the second VMK, I am excited but also worried.

I've just heard that VMK is to remain open until Halloween. GOOD WORK EVERYONE!!

And the Nintendo DS chip for Caspian should be out, meaning DGamer is live and active. You will see DGamer featured heavily in the Kingdom Keepers 2. ENJOY!

Not Goodbye...

Well here we are, at the end of a long journey. First, I'd like to say thank you for your notes, emails and letters – they have all made their way to me. I too have many great memories, and like you, I have a great appreciation of VMK.

I wish I could list out my favorite VMK memories and moments, but there are so many it's impossible to list them all. Of course something that I get asked over and over again is what inspired you to make VMK. For each of us it started with a love of the Disney Parks, and in my case it was a book...

The Big Blue Book

I was 11 years old when I went to see a Disney stage show. I don't remember the details of the show, only that each family that attended received a big blue book. In my family, I ended up with the book and spent many, many nights reading it. Over and over again.

The book was called "Disneyland, The First Quarter Century."

The book showcased the first 25 years of the Park with a few pages of the then upcoming Big Thunder Mountain. Many of the attractions shown were still in the Park, but a few that caught my eye (Flying Saucers, Phantom Boats and Carousel of Progress) made me wish I could turn back the clock.

Yavn took inspiration for VMK from this book about Disneyland.

I spent so much time visiting and reading about Disneyland that I started to know every inch of it, past and present. But Disneyland wasn't my only passion, I was also a huge fan of video games, and I always thought it would be cool to make a computerized version of Disneyland. Of course I had no idea what that would mean until much later...

What amazes me now is the way that Disneyland found its way to the internet, and again is showing the world an exciting new frontier – a digital frontier, that lives on the internet.

Now VMK is going away. Just like several attractions at Disneyland that have come and gone, VMK was just the first step in a new age of online attractions. However unlike Disneyland, VMK was never built to run forever. VMK was just the beginning – who knows what we will imagine next!

Still we've had a great time, shared some great memories – and years from now, someone will mention VMK in a conversation and you can smile and say proudly "Yeah, I played it."

Remember this is farewell, not goodbye! After some much needed rest you'll probably catch me sailing the virtual seas in Pirates, or flying around in Pixie Hollow.

Hey guys! I'd like you to meet a pal of mine from Toontown Online – his name is Hysterical Harry and he's one of the Toons that's been visiting VMK this month courtesy of that mysterious portal that opened behind VMK's Fantasyland on April 1st. (I really need to talk to Yavn about getting that portal closed...)

Anyway, I actually bumped into this Toon in VMK Central.

Harry was playing VMK on the ol' Central computer talking about how much VMK reminded him of Halloween because all the players dress up as different characters. I watched him build a cool guest room but then I had to go – as I left, I heard him mumbling that he had a big surprise for VMK. Hmmm.

Now, I'm not sure what this Toon is up to, but can you do me a favor? Keep an eye out for any wacky going-ons, would ya? And if you see something that doesn't seem quite right, let me know. I'll be walking around in game keeping an eye on things too.

Me again, so a little Toon told me about a strange sporting event that’s starting this weekend – I’m working on getting more details about this wacky event, so stay tooned.
Keeping it Safe – and Fun

Before this Toon wackiness gets too crazy, I wanted to take a moment and talk a little about VMK, our mission and our commitment to you, our Guests/Players.

At Disney we work very hard to make VMK a fun and safe environment for Guest of all ages.

With VMK we’ve always tried to innovate, be creative and do exciting new things. Sometimes those ideas work great, and sometimes we need to keep working on them and prefecting them. But as Walt said, “We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” And of course, as we always have, we very much appreciate that you are with us on the journey.

VMK or Virtual Magic Kingdom is a FREE online multiplayer game and was launched as part of a promotion for the Disneyland 50th Celebration.

We’ve built an awesome community, and VMK Players do their part too. Like any game or community, VMK has rules and guidelines that our players MUST follow to visit and play in the Virtual Magic Kingdom.

That said, I thought it would be a good idea to talk briefly about our game rules, the VMK Values.

The rules are very simple. If you follow them, everybody has a lot of fun. If you break them you’ll find yourself banned from VMK, which isn’t very fun. They’re all important, but these are a few I want to focus on today:

1. Using ANY program that modifies, plays or logs into VMK for you is NOT ALLOWED. Using these programs affect our systems (and other players) and will get you banned.

If you didn’t download it from VMK.com, DON’T use it with VMK!

2. NEVER harass players or bother players – or engage in ANY behavior that may be offensive or disruptive to the game or other players. This includes disruptive protest, using foul language, name calling, blocking a room, entrance or Quest item.

Be respectful to other players and the community, don’t do anything that wouldn’t be allowed in a real Disney park. Treat players as you would like to be treated.
Be safe! And have fun!

3. Adult subjects are NEVER allowed in VMK. This includes discussing or describing adult subjects, creating any type of ‘relationship’ rooms or engaging in chat related to adult subjects or relationships.

Play VMK like your parents or schoolteacher are watching, if they wouldn’t approve of your behavior or activity, there’s a very good chance we don’t either.

4. NEVER, under any circumstance ask for or give out ANY personal information to another player. (This includes your password, e-mail address, telephone number, location, or other means of contact or personal information.)

It doesn’t matter if you know the person – giving out ANY personal information online is NEVER safe, against VMK Values and will get you banned.

5. Don’t describe or discuss acts of violence against yourself or others. Doing this will not only get you banned but depending on the situation it could also get you into trouble with local authorities (that means the police).

6. Don’t scam or steal from other players. Don’t give away, trade or sell your VMK character.

Scamming takes many forms, for example creating or opening any type of ‘Pay to Play’ room. (This is a room where you pay the room owner to play a game and it’s up to the room owner to award the prize.) Players charging for ANY type of game or activity is also against VMK Values and will get you banned.

The WaCky WoRLd of Toon Sports!

Season starts 4-5-2008

Those wacky Toons have brought their hijinks to VMK for a sports weekend to celebrate the start of Baseball, uh we mean, Footbase season!

“Touchdown!”

What’s Footbase? It’s a Topsy Turvy game the Toons play where they mix Baseball with Football for an exciting game of Footbase! The rules of the game are simple – a Football is used in place of a baseball (no bat is required, just a good throwing arm)! Each game has 4 innings and oh yeah, each inning has 4 outs! Players that make it to home base (Footbase) have to yell “Touchdown” for the run to count!

Players suit up before the game begins! Put on a Footbase outfit before you take the field (it’s a combination of baseball and football gear – wear a helmet for protection)! Make up a team or cheer one on! Want to watch a game before you play? Alright then, relax with some refreshment while you take in the wackiness!

KarateKyle’s The Lost Tiki Temple!

This week we made over a room belonging to KarateKyle – who had just bought a few pieces of furniture and was placing them around his room when I walked in! I asked if he needed any assistance in building out his Tiki-themed room. He was happy to have the help and I jumped right into designing the perfect tropical hideaway!

BEFORE: A fine selection of adventure-themed furniture is a good start for a tropical themed room!

KarateKyle already had some great stuff that we would use for this makeover but first we got rid of some miscellaneous items (like his collection of Adventureland Posters and Disneyland Velvet-rope Room Divider). The other items – beige Tom Sawyer’s Island Teepee, Explorer’s Carpet, and a Camp Fire – I brought closer to the water’s edge to create a small camp for this daring explorer.

Then we added two Coffee Table Crates, Barrel Chairs, Bamboo Wall Dividers and Disney Cruise Travel Chests in different colors to make it look like a camp! KarateKyle could rest his head here before embarking on his next adventure!

To add even more to this story, we made sure his Jungle Cruise Boat (Teleporter) was close at hand should he need to sail downriver! An Explorer’s Lantern and Expedition Supplies complete the look and interaction of room.

DURING: “So this one time at VMK Camp, we roasted marshmallows with a freindly (yet mysterious) Yeti creature!”

But what’s a tropical hideaway without a lost Tiki Temple! For this, I started with a base built of Dead Man’s Chests and layered it with ALR Sand and Pirate Treasure (small) Rugs. The Chests look like stone when stacked on top of each other and the rugs make it so that anyone can walk up the stone steps.

Along the edge of this structure, we placed Tangaroa-Ru Tiki idols in alternating colors and created torches on the top step from Crow’s Nest Barstool Poles and Camp Fires. At the very top, two Karo Tiki Chairs and a pair of ALR Cave Arches make for extra seating and the top of our temple!

Last but certainly not least, we added lots of Parrot Palm Trees and PPR Plants to create a lush, tropical feel for the room. So if you’re up for some adventure and exploration, visit KarateKyle’s Lost Tiki Temple!

Cheaters never prosper. Any players using aides – such as software programs that hack, log into or play VMK for you, answer guides or any other assistants – to complete this Quest will be disqualified from the Quest and as a violation of VMK Values, permanently banned from VMK.

Using the guide in TellMeAboutIt’s VMK News is fine, it is not cheating.

Some of you might want to know how to pass task 16 on the new Blackheart quest (otherwise know as the “pirate task”). Here is a little guide for this task:

Pre-Playing-

Gather 8 players who will continuously play with you once all eight people are done. Choose wisely as some players may drop out after they complete it. With that said, start a game with 4 against 4.

Have the player that is winning on Port Royal and the “main shooter” on the Pirates side. The “main shooter” should have the biggest shooting ship (Wicked Wench).

Reminder- NOBODY is shooting but the main shooter and the player who will win.

Round 1-
The player that will win will kill everyone on the Pirate side but the “main shooter”.
The “main shooter” will shoot everyone on royal but the player who is going to win.
Now you should have the “main shooter” and the player who will win left.
Have the two players that are left get health if they need it.
Now the player who will win needs to get Gold Cannon Balls, and have them as the next shot. (gold will get you more points)
Have the player who will win and the shooter line right up next to each other.
Quickly, before the kraken comes up, the player who will win uses the full shot of Gold Cannon Balls on the shooter and should end up with 200+ points. (this will kill the shooter)
Round 2-
Since Port Royal won the last round you will need to choose two Pirates that will not be shoot until later. (the shooter and another pirate player)
Now have the shooter shoot everyone on Port Royal but the player that will win.
Then have the player that will win shoot everyone on pirates BUT the shooter and the other player that was selected in Round 2, Step 1.
Now there should be 3 ships left. 1 Port Royal (the winning player) & 2 Pirates (the shooter and the other selected player)
Now have the player that will win take a full shoot on the “main shooter”. (killing the main shooter and getting all of their points)(you do not need gold for this)
Now have the player that will win sit in one spot and die by the Kraken. (this player will keep half of their points)
Have the other selected player (on pirates) moving around until the round ends.
Round 3-
The player that will win will kill everyone on the Pirate side but the “main shooter”.
The “main shooter” will shoot everyone on royal but the player who is going to win.
Now you should have the “main shooter” and the player who will win left.
Have the two players that are left get health if they need it.
Now the player who will win needs to get Gold Cannon Balls, and have them as the next shot. (gold will get you more points)
Have the player who will win and the shooter line right up next to each other.
Quickly, before the kraken comes up, the player who will win uses the full shot of Gold Cannon Balls on the shooter and should end up with 200+ points. (this will kill the shooter)
The Math-

Round 1: 200+
Round 3: 200+
Round 2: 50+
Winning: 100

The + on round one, two, and three means you should hopefully get more then 75 between all of the rounds.

Using this method, the highest yesterday was 830 points.

The Legend of Captain Blackheart

He was born James Hartford Black in London, England when the Golden Age of Piracy was at it’s peak. As a boy, James and his family settled in one of the island communities in the Caribbean protected under the British flag. Port Beck was a westward facing merchant town where James heard countless stories of famous pirates from the sailors who frequented the docks. He listened to tales of Calico Jack Rackham, Anne Bonny and Mary Read, Black Bart, Edward Teach, and of course, the legendary Captain Jack Sparrow. He could recite every tale and had committed the Pirate Code to memory.

Now being a child of a highly influential family, his parents would hear no talk of piracy in their home. When James continued his daydreaming down at the docks and admiration of these known thieves and braggarts, his father decided it was time his son learn the difficult lessons of the sea first hand and enlisted him in His Majesty’s Royal Navy as a deckhand.

James lived and worked for several years on the ship known as the HMS Declaration. She was a good ship and as James sailed from port to port, protecting merchant vessels and escorting prominent families, he became a strong and clever young sailor. In all of his work, his mind always drifted out to sea. The Declaration never left the safety of the bays, only venturing a few fathoms out to sea to usher in visiting ships. The neighboring islands were clustered closely together, so there was little time to find the wind fully in the sails before they had reached their next destination. Even as a member of the Royal Navy, James still fancied himself a swashbuckling scallywag.

As fate would have it, the Declaration was commissioned to sail to England for it’s yearly round of supplies for Port Beck and the surrounding towns. Customarily this obligation would have fallen to a larger ship but there was a sense of urgency about this trip and very few ships could prevail in speed as the Declaration. At last, James would sail upon open waters.

Not a fortnight into their excursion when James and the crew were awakened by the unfamiliar crash of cannon fire. There was a commotion in the lower barracks as sailors snatched at their swords and pistols and raced to the top deck to defend their ship and captain. James tore up the steps and out into the open air to view the battle before him. By the light of the full moon, he could clearly see his comrades engaged in a furious scuffle. Swords met mid-air with a clash. James, being the clever young man that he was, searched for the source from which these pirates boarded their ship. Not but a fathom from the starboard side, a glorious ship with ruby sails had affixed herself to the Declaration.

The ship was unmistakable. James had heard tales of this vessel and her wretched captain. The ship was the Scarlet Sorceress. Her captain, one of the most fearsome men on these tropical waters: Captain Edward de Wilde. To most he was known as Wilde the Vile with blazing eyes, a tangle of hair as black as the Caspian Sea, and a beard with a single crimson streak from lip to tip. As James scoured the Declaration’s deck with his eyes, he could not locate this man. He gleaned the captain might still be on his own ship in his quarters. James climbed half way up the rigging and swung himself onto the decks of the Scarlet Sorceress, completely undetected as the skirmish on the Declaration continued.

He made his way over to the bright red door of the captain’s quarters where he could see a faint light flicker in a small, sea-stained window. As he approached, the door swung open and James drew the tip of his cutlass to Captain Wilde’s throat. The captain was caught a bit off-guard, believing most navy men to be cowardly inept. Never did he suppose a sailor would be cunning and brave enough to attempt to hold the vile Captain Wilde hostage.

James led Captain Wilde to the port side of the ship and called attention to the fact that he indeed held the pirate captain captive. The pirates aboard the Declaration laid down their arms and the sailors guided their new prisoners to the brig below. As James readied to take the captain to the decks of the navy vessel, Captain Wilde let out a wild whoop and up from the barracks came nearly two dozen of the captain’s crew. The tables had turned in favor of the pirates: James was now their prisoner. The handful of men still above deck on the Declaration were not quick enough to rescue James as they dragged him below decks and sharply turned the Sorceress due West. Within moments, the pirates were out of cannon range and even the Declaration could not match the Sorceress’s velocity.

Wilde the Vile was not apt to keep prisoners on his ship. He would have sent James to the crushing depths of Davy Jones’s Locker if he hadn’t admired James’s courage and intelligence. He saw a lot of himself in this young man and found himself frequenting the brig to converse with his prisoner. A short length of time passed before James gained the Captain’s trust and became a member of his crew. It was not long at all before he was appointed as First Mate. At last James ventured upon the open sea with the wind as his guide and felt the freedom his heart always yearned for. He was free to sail anywhere in the Caribbean and began to amass his own wealth as Captain Wilde’s only confidant.

A few years had passed and the day came when Captain Wilde took his last breath. He had outlived most pirates of his time. He had never been successfully captured by the Royal Navy and never lost a duel. It was on his deathbed that he disclosed his final wish: James would inherit the Scarlet Sorceress and with it the location of Captain Wilde’s grandest treasure. With the map in hand, James set course for the Wilde Treasure.

Nearly a month had passed by the time Captain James Hartford Black and his crew uncovered his predecessor’s fortune. Gold, jewels, and riches abound and Captain Black divided it amongst himself and the crew. They made a stop at Tortuga for celebration and supplies but while the captain was out gathering necessities, he heard tell of a mutinous plan his newly acquired crew had in store for him. It appeared that these miscreants felt that the Sorceress and the Wilde Treasure did not rightfully belong to young Captain Black. Any treasure should have been given entirely to the crew since it was they whom had helped Captain Wilde accrue this great wealth. No Royal Navy brat should have sole possession of the ship nor could lead the crew in true buccaneer battle.

With this news squarely in mind, Captain Black made his way back to the ship to load the provisions for which he had already bartered. He found only three of his men at the dock guarding the ship. He casually dismissed them and advised them to join in the celebration in town. He stowed away his rations and watched as the last of his men disappeared up the dock. The Sorceress was a smaller ship, not nearly as grand as a navy vessel, and could be readied to set sail by just one man. As soon as had he pulled away from the dock, two of his crew strolled around the corner to see their captain sailing away with their ship. They ran back to inform the rest of their crew and within moments they had commandeered a merchant ship and were at the Sorceress’s heels.

Weeks passed as the Sorceress outran the pirates’ ship at every turn. The insubordinate crew was set on taking back their ship and sending her captain to Davy Jones and it seemed as if their will fueled the ship. Captain James Black could feel a storm coming and knew this would be his one chance for a clean escape. He steered the Scarlet Sorceress straight into the tumultuous tide and the stinging rain. He could see no signs of any other ship. Water cut down from the sky and crashed onto the deck in rolling waves. A deafening roar of thunder sounded above as lightning struck a mast and came crashing down upon the captain. A ruby sail fluttered before his eye and he remembered the first time he looked upon his ship. A flash of crimson and then everything went black.

He awoke to the sounds of waves crashing gently on sand. He opened his eyes to a clear blue sky. Not knowing how long he had been unconscious, he had no concept of time. He sat up with a groan and took a look at his surroundings. Behind him was a small hut with a bridge beside it. In the distance he could see a volcano with smoke wafting in the breeze. He knocked upon the door of the hut to find it uninhabited. He turned to look at the beach where he had just been laying. Pieces of his ship lay scattered across the sand, along with most of his treasure. He gathered up the loot and decided to store it in the empty hut until he found a suitable place to bury it. There was a chill on the wind, so he picked up one of the only sails left intact and fashioned a bright red coat. He took shelter in the island shed for the night. It was the first time in weeks he had slept soundly.

Sun beamed through the windows and across his face. He awoke and realized the recent events which had occurred were indeed not a dream but reality. He needed to find a place to bury his treasure so he set out into the jungle. He passed ruins and temples and what looked like an abandoned town square, shop, and docks. As the day went on, he discovered that this island was inhabited by an interesting group of natives who wore mouse ears upon their heads and played at being pirates, explored jungles, dressed as medieval royalty, frequented a mountain known as ‘Space’ and sometimes performed suspicious spells. As he journeyed throughout this world, which was strange and unknown to him, not one of the natives took a second glance at him. He knew this was a place where his mutinous crew would never be able to find him or his treasure. He stumbled upon a secluded area deep within the forest where a mighty tree stood. He dragged what was left of his ship to this place and built a residence high above the town, the scarlet door of his quarters a constant reminder of his beloved ship.

Captain Black, still weary that he would be discovered in this new world, changed his appearance by growing out his hair and donning an eye patch. He also thought it would be wise to change his name. Captain James Hartford Black would be known only as Captain Blackheart.

The whereabouts of the captain’s great fortune are rumored to be somewhere in this magic kingdom now inhabited by a tree-dwelling pirate captain. Its exact location has never been discovered.

Answer: Tom Sawyer Island opened in 1956.

Tom Sawyer Island opened one year after Disneyland. Other names considered for the island were Mickey Mouse Island and Treasure Island. In the end, the name Tom Sawyer Island was used to go along with the Frontierland theme.

The island was re-themed as Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island to coincide with the release of the third installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy.

Treasure Cave Bay – The Ride!

Ahoy ya landlubbers! The other day I wandered upon two and a half ships in the middle of an unfinished pirate bay.

Aye, YellowSameLeaf had just purchased this room and wanted to put 'em to good use (instead of using them to store her plunder like most of her other rooms). Pirates bein' the topic for this month, we set out to turn this bay into a treasure cave.

BEFORE: Time to ransack this room!

Like all room makeovers, we started with the basics: ALR Cave Walls Tall were already in place, but they needed to be taller, so I stacked up PPR Small Islands and placed the walls on top of them. Then to cover the islands, we placed more tall ALR Cave Walls and Corners in front of them.

For our entrance, we created a three tiered entry out of ALR Cave Arches and PPR Small Islands, then we laid down a floor of Pirate Treasure Rugs. By adding two PPR Mermaid Lagoon Waterfalls on either side to outline our body of water, the base of this room was now complete!

TIP: Wide-open spaces are easy to work with for ride rooms, try using Empty Dark Ride Rooms for that.

As I went along decorating the mainland with Pirate Thrones, Pirate Map Tables, Pirate Treasure Chests, Dead Man's Chests, black Coffee Table Crates, Galleon Masts, a Pirate Player Piano, Madame Leota Table, Pirate Treasure Chair, Parrot Palm Tree and a few Expedition Supplies, YellowSameLeaf asked if I could add something to the room she'd been wanting for quite a while: a ride! Aye, this Host just loves building rides, of course I said, "Absolutely matey!"

We decided the best place to put the ride would be in the water, so we created a miniature attraction called, "Walk the Plank!"

We made a small ship out of Galleon pieces (which you can find in the Treasure Chest rewards for the Pirates of the Caribbean mini-games) and built a ride out of Dark Ride pieces! The ride takes guests up and over the ship and drops them down into the water (just like walking the plank!). Finally, a PPR Tiny Pirate Ship and PPR Skull Rock were added for some swashbuckling excitement!

AFTER: Walk the plank, ya bilge rat!

And just like that, YellowSameLeaf had her very own pirate adventure! Ahoy! It's time for me to sail back into the Kingdom – see you next time, matey!

What was the Disney Gallery at Disneyland originally designed to be?

Answer: An apartment for Walt Disney and his family.

Designed by Dorothy Redmond, the apartment was going to be a place where Walt and his brother Roy could entertain visiting VIP's as well as accommodate family members staying in Disneyland for the night.

Walt's apartment over the Firehouse on Main Street wasn't big enough to handle large groups, so this almost 3000 square foot home away from home more than served that purpose – in addition a back exit connected the apartment to the Club 33 kitchen allowing Walt quick and easy access to the Club.

Unfortunately, work on the apartment was never completed and in 1987 the location was converted into the Disney Gallery, which showcased artwork and exhibits until recently.

In 2007, the Disney Gallery was converted into the Disneyland Dream Suite as part of The Year of a Million Dreams promotion (which is continuing through 2008). Using the original designs, Imagineers created a private getaway that looks almost as it would have, were it finished for Walt Disney himself!

Did you know: Walt and Roy's initials can be seen in wrought iron rails on the balcony overlooking New Orleans Square.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for – Illusionistic! They've recreated thier very own verision of the world famous Pirates of the Caribbean! Ride down the waterfalls, discover cursed caves, or visit a captured scallywag!

Illusionistic did a great job of using the Pirate Galleon pieces and topped them with Pirate Treasure Chests in red to build the attraction boats. He even added his own special touch: a long slimy Kraken tentacle!!! (Okay, so the tentacle is really just a ALR Shrub Arch but it sure works in the theme and looks fantastic!)

Mini Pirates of the Caribbean!

StrangeKhakiStory tried her hardest to build a ride room. After re-building the room again and again, she was just about to give up – that's when I entered her room. After making my own pirate rides for this month's Ride-A-Thon's, I was really excited to see someone else's version of the greatest attraction in all of New Orleans Square!

BEFORE: It's a start, but this room will need more scurvy seadog-ness.

To make this room feel like Pirates of the Caribbean it will need a few touches that resemble the real ride. We started working on the layout of the ride track first, starting at the beginning of the ride and working our way towards the end. Lafitte's Landing is made out of brown Coffee Table Crates, Crow's Nest Barstools, and a few Pirate Maze Walls. A mini Blue Bayou is made out of a Pirate Map Table and blue Pirate Thrones, while the swampy atmosphere is added with a Swamp Tree.

We outlined the Falls with rushing water from Water Ride Teleporters and turned the corner into the Grotto with a Skeleton Chair leaning against a few Typhoon Lagoon Palm Trunks on top of a few PPR Small Islands topped with a Pirate Treasure Rug. In Shipwreck Cove we added a Galleon Bow and of course a Skeleton at the Helm. Now it's starting to feel like a Pirates ride!

TIP: Lay out your track the way you think it should go but feel free to change it to fit your building plan.

We continued by recreating the Captain's Quarters and Treasure Room with some scattered PPR Small Islands, Pirates Treasure Rugs, Treasure Chair, Skeleton Chair, Captain's Quarters Sofa, and a few accessories. Next came the Wicked Wench! The PPR Tiny Ship was just perfect for that! For a miniature fort, we used Pirate Maze Turrets with Skeleton Chairs for guards.

The Town Square is represented by the Well Chair and the skeletons on the opposite side are supposed to be the Auctioneer and redhead (see the red bandana? LOL!) Continuing on, Flaming Ransacked Windows on all sides make you feel like you're really going through the Flaming Ransacked Town. Dueling pirates with cannons sit in front of a Castle Suit Fireplace, which has been turned around to show the shields.

Finally the Treasure Room, where you can sometimes find Captain Jack Sparrow with a handful of loot! A few Pirate Maze Walls, stacked PPR Small Islands, a black Pirate Throne, and Pirate Treasure Small Rugs with golden Explorer Lanterns recreate this most recent addition to the actual attraction.

AFTER: Arrgh! One ride, one room!

Who knew we could fit so much into a single Guest room! (As a bonus, at the end of the ride, we added a teleporter that takes you right back to the beginning of the ride, so when you visit StrangeKhakiStory's Mini Pirates of the Caribbean, you can ride again and again and again!)

Last week's question:

On the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disneyland, the two drop hills at the beginning of the ride do more than take guest down a waterfall. Besides providing a good thrill, what do the drop hills on the attraction do?

Answer: The two drop hills on the POTC attraction take Guest UNDER the railroad tracks and outside of the normal bounds of Disneyland Park.

The Pirates show building is for the most part, actually outside of Disneyland. Like several attractions in the Park, the rides are just too big to be contained by a single building. The Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain and the Indiana Jones Adventure are also outside of the normal bounds of Disneyland (marked by the railroad tracks).

In a scene that was re-enacted in Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, jailed pirates try tempting a dog for the key to the cell.

Did you know: The Pirates of the Caribbean attraction was the last attraction Walt Disney was actively occupied with. Walt loved the real New Orleans and was heavily involved with every aspect of planning New Orleans Square. For the Blue Bayou he had Imagineers build a restaurant that would tie directly into Pirates while making Guest feel like they were dining in a quiet Louisiana bayou.

Walt never got to see the Pirates attraction open and the only scene he got to see completed was the auction sequence.

Ahoy, lads and lassies – hoist an anchor and get ready to set sail! Tis another edition of Yavn Speaks, this time with extra arrgh!

Aye, ye scallywags, it's me again. So you've come looking adventure and salty old pirates, eh? Well you have definitely come to the right place. We've got adventure and seadogs a plenty this month.

Let's a take a look at what's going on:

The Pirates Have Landed!

In case you hadn't guessed our theme this month is Pirates and what better way to celebrate being a pirate than introduce you to a game that truly lets you live the life of a pirate!

Pirates Plunder & Other Surprises

These treasures from the sea are all just part of our celebration of Pirates!

Did somebody ask for another chance at Coral Magic? Well it's back, and hidden somewhere in the Kingdom. Now if you ride a dark ride or two you'll be a step closer to finding it – but you'll have to do your homework to find out exactly how you can claim that treasure.

Speaking of claiming treasure, we've got a bounty of treasure that you'll have a chance to get your hands on this month – including a magic carpet you've been asking about forever. We'll have more details on just how you can lay your hook on it later in the month though.

What pirate wouldn't mind a few extra VMK credits? Well, Captain Blackheart might know something about where to find some 'em, and those treasure chest might be hiding something interesting too.

But we've got lots of other treasures hidden in the Kingdom (like double rewards for those Pirates mini-games), you just got to get in the game, talk to our NPC's for hints and like any good pirate, do some treasure hunting.

Jolly Roger Flag's, Ride-A-Thon's And Gallery Getaways

About that Jolly Roger Flag, so the Pirates of the Caribbean Ride-A-Thon threw a slight wrench in the works that kept us from properly getting those Jolly Roger Flag Posters to all the players that logged in on 3-1-08. No worries though, we're fixing the problem and are planning a day to make it up to you. We'll keep you posted, but in the meantime, keep watching the Event Info section for news about that.

Arrgh! How about that Pirates of the Caribbean Ride-A-Thon to kick off our Pirates of the Caribbean Online month? We've got another POTC Ride-A-Thon coming up, so be sure to check out the Event Info section for details.

More cool events that are on the way are the Pirate & Princess Parties! (That's right, I said Parties!) This event will correspond with the actual in-Park events so if you can't get to the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, be sure to join us in VMK for this very awesome celebration.

Speaking of cool events many of you had a chance to take part in the recent VMK Gallery event "Making the Magic" and meet some of the guys behind VMK. If you didn't get a chance to meet the makers and see the stuff that was previewed, we're sorry but don't worry – we'll have another chance for you to do so.

We had considered previewing the stuff in the Newsletter page but we thought it would be much cooler to show you the stuff in-game as well as give you a chance to interact with VMK staff directly. Again, we're working on making future Gallery events larger so more people can be a part of the fun.

Arrgh! That about wraps it up for now. Like I said, be sure to keep checking the Newsletter for event date and times. I also hear my second mate, the Yeti, will be back with new info, while our pal Shrunken Ned will keep you up on new item releases and that Event Info section will keep you up on what's happening in the Kingdom.

Mr. Yeti, I used 'Call for Help' to ask about when some new items where releasing and I got banned? Why did VMK do that?

'Call For Help' is like VMK's 911. It's only to be used for serious player emergencies - such as harassment, threats, real-life safety issues, or violence. DO NOT USE IT FOR COMMENTS OR GENERAL GAME QUESTIONS – you will get banned.

If you want to ask general questions or have a general comment like "great event VMK thank you!" use 'Contact Us.'
"he beat me in checkers," or "they cut in line" is NOT a serious emergency - use the REPORT player button for those issues.

If you have questions about items or events - read the Newsletter! Any information about upcoming items or events will always appear there first!

Reporting false information will get you banned from the game. When you use 'Call for Help' make sure you have as much information as possible about the incident so we can research it properly.

Hey Mr. Yeti, why can't I tell my VMK friends how old I am?

Don't your friends know it's not good manners to ask someone their age? Seriously, it's not only bad manners but it's against VMK Values. Why? Because giving out any personal information could compromise your account and even your personal safety!

You should never give anyone any personal information, online or otherwise, it's just not safe. Plus, giving out ANY KIND of personal information – your real name, your phone number, where you live, your contact information, grade level or age – is against VMK Values and will get you banned.

Look at this way – do superheroes go around telling everyone their secret identity? No! And neither should you.

Mr. Yeti, I've heard that my friends got banned for a room they opened, does VMK ban players for room names?

If you or your friend open a room that is against the VMK Values, yes, you will be banned. Depending on the nature of the and level of the offense, you could be banned permanently!

ANY type of 'relationship' room (rooms that include words like 'taken,' 'meet,' 'pick,' 'get,' 'find,' 'have,' etc.) are NEVER ALLOWED in VMK and opening or participating in ANY type of room that promotes this kind of activity will get you removed from VMK.

Remember : ANY adult themes or subject matters are NEVER appropriate in VMK.

Any types of rooms that are mean-spirited or offensive to other players are also against VMK Values.

Mr. Yeti, my friends were talking about some stuff that made me feel uncomfortable, what should I do?

Again, adult themes or subject matters are NEVER appropriate in VMK. If another player has made you feel uncomfortable, REPORT the player immediately. We'll be able to go back and look at the chat logs and see what was said or done and take action to moderate the offending player.

In general, you should play VMK like a parent or teacher is looking over your shoulder. If you do or say something that they would think is wrong, you probably shouldn't do it in the game. Treat our virtual Park and Guest like you would real world Park and Guest. Disruptive behavior, harassing other players/Guest is NEVER acceptable in VMK and will get you banned.

Captain Cosmic Pirate Fortress

I first met ClearCosmicKnight, or Captain Cosmic as he likes to be called, as he sat in his room thinking about how to build a better mousetrap. In this case that mousetrap was a pirate fort that needed a few improvements. I asked him if he needed any help and of course he jumped at the chance for a VMK Room Makeover!

BEFORE: This fort will never hold off the likes of Captain Barbossa!

As regular readers of this section know, we normally begin a makeover by clearing the room of all furniture and adding rugs to get a basis for our theme. The good thing about the Caribbean Town Square room is that the floor is already quite detailed and ready for the type of room we're about to create today.

The only prep work that was really needed was to remove the table and chairs so we'd have room to reshape the fort. Pushing the walls of the fort towards the edge of the beach we used the wall of the room as the left side of the fortress.

After the first wall was built (along with some outer wall guidelines), we filled in the center of our fort with Pirate Maze Walls, then topped them off with Pirate Treasure Rugs so defending pirates could stand up and man the cannons. We left one space open in the back as the entrance and flanked it with Skeleton at the Helm guards.

TIP: Add rugs to stackable items so you can walk on them.

To finish up the fort, we added brown Barrel Chairs and rotated them so they look like barrels full of powder for the cannons. Brown Coffee Table Crates hold explosives to throw at any intruding scallywags. A Skeleton at the Helm guards the walls.

Now that the fortress was solid, we added a Well Chair for keeping captured trespassers tied up and a mountain of pirate loot. We created that out of Ariel Treasure Chests, Treasure Chairs, Pirate Treasure Chairs, Pirate Treasure Rugs and small hidden Space Mountain Poles.

Finally, a Pirate Council meeting table was created by surrounding three Pirate Map Tables with Pirate Thrones in red and black. We even found a place for Captain Cosmic's ship to dock near the edge of the fort, (the ship was made from Galleon Pieces and a Galleon Mast.)

AFTER: Barbossa will never get his hands on Captain Cosmic's loot!

Arrgh! At last matey, Captain Cosmic's treasure be safe from plunderin' pirates! Now time to celebrate another VMK Makeover – so drink up me hearties! Yo ho ho! It's a pirate's life, indeed!

Double credits on Capture The Flag on Tuesdays and double for Ship Battle on Thursdays, hooray!

VMK's pirate is giving out double credits! Captain Blackheart is now giving out 50 credits instead of 25. Let's hope this lasts through the month!

Pirate Ride-A-Thon

You all know that there is a Pirates of the Caribbean Ride-A-Thon going on this weekend, it is totally awesome! And there's another one next week! First time VMK has done a Ride-A-Thon two weeks in a row!

Here's a picture of one of the ride rooms:

"Yoho, yoho, a pirate's life for me! We kindle and char and enflame and ignite, drink up me 'earties, yoho. We burn up the city, we're really a fright, drink up me 'earties, yoho!"

Saturday's prise was a Crow's Nest Bar Stool Pole. And Sundays was PPR Small Island. Wonder what next week's will be!

VMK Room Makeover

This week:

Leota Séance Room

RoyalFushiaMask was busy contemplating her next decorating decision when I took a seat in her room. He favorite attraction, she told me, is the Haunted Mansion and her favorite scene is the Séance Room, home to everyone's favorite spectral speaker, Madame Leota.

RoyalFushiaMask wanted to design a room that featured Madame Leota's Crystal Ball but also wanted to include a lot of purple. Hmmm. This sounds like a job for HOST_Bella! Roommakover powers activate!

BEFORE:

Our first step was to take a good look at what she already had in the room and how that might work with our new design. The Magic Show Blocks that RoyalFushiaMask had already placed in the room were great but needed to be turned to show off the purple curtain and stars.

Creating a dozen columns would allow guests to enter freely while adding a lot of color to the room – if we had placed the blocks right next to each other, it would have blocked the entrance and hid the purple curtains

Now it's time to decorate the floor. Even though this is a Haunted Mansion room, we decided to use a lot of Magic Show items, like the Magic Show Carpets we used to create a really fun design.

TIP: Don't be afraid to use items from other themes to enhance your rooms.

We created six séance stations using Madame Leota Tables, Crysal Balls and Books. Some Haunted Mansion Rocking Chairs and Candelabras were also placed in the room, all in a perfect shade of purple. Every room should have a centerpiece, we made sure to highlight one table by placing it right in the middle of the room. To add a bit more lighting, we added Hong Kong Paper Lanterns in magenta along the sides of the rooms.

AFTER: The spirits are assembling for a swinging wake!

Now with our room colete it was time for a lively party with some silly spooks! Be sure to join RoyalFushiaMask in her Madam Leota Séance Room! (You never know what just might be conjured up!)

Time for me to vanish back into the Kingdom!

A Magician's Quest!

Ladies and gentlemen, step right up! Play RubyBrightEye's amazing Magician's Quest! Be astounded and entertained by this challenging adventure that takes you throughout the Kingdom! Meet new friends! Chat with NPC's! Play games!

This week we'll look at how to build a Quest room that will make your friends feel like a part of the Magic!

BEFORE: A great start but it needs more magic!

All great magicians know that the atmosphere adds to the illusion. We needed a lot of atmosphere for this room, so we started from the ground up! Magic Show Carpet Centers, Edges, and Corners are great

for wall-to-wall carpeting. TIP: Changing the flooring can have big impact in an empty room.

We then disguised the dark walls with Magic Show Room Dividers. We spaced those out by placing blue Hong Kong Paper Lanterns in-between them. Next, we created a stage out of Magic Show Blocks A, B, and C – staggering those to show different colored curtains in the front and a variety of star patterns on the side.

DURING: This room is getting more magical by the minute!

Almost at our halfway point now, the Quest Machine is moved near the back of the stage. By doing this, guests still have room to show off their favorite magic tricks at the front of the stage. By using Magic Show Curtains on all sides of the Quest Machine it showcases the Quest, making it the center of the room.

Now for a place to sit! We created three rows of Magic Show Top Hat Chairs in Blue and Purple and added a Gold chair (a HOST prize) to the center of each row.

The room was still missing a bit of magic, so we added four Main Street Magic Shop Tables around the edges of the room along with two almost-hidden Tower of Terror Elevator Teleporters in the far corners – for magic tricks that are both fun to watch and add magic to the room!

AFTER: The stage is now set for a amazing Quest!
